Stella's Story

There was a time when I had a very nice boy who was headed for his championship and I was looking for a lady for him. My goal was to have some beautiful show puppies.

I asked others about who I should go to for this and after being given the name of a long-time breeder who had just had a litter of puppies, I made a phone call.

She quoted me $2,000.00 for an eight month old girl. The pictures of her looked especially nice so I made arrangements to have her shipped from New York.

When I picked her up at the air port I was even more pleased at how beautiful she really was.

However, she was very small and quite dirty. I had been told that she hadn't been bathed but it took me three baths to see what her true color was, a shinning beautiful silver/fawn.

She refused to eat but I just thought she needed time to adjust to her new home. I mixed up everything anyone could think of to feed her and she did eventually put on one and a half pounds. But that was after having to give her a Periactin tablet twice daily.

I took Stella to a show where she gained three points. It was a four day show and most everyone had gone home after the week end leaving Stella with a good opportunity for points. These were to be the only points she ever got while I had her.

She continued to be a very finiky eater and began to be terribly afraid of any kind of loud noise. I finally decided she would not work for me as I could not get her to eat normal and her fears were beginning to be irrational. Perhaps the shipping made her fearful or else perhaps she and I just simply did not bond. It does happen although I've never before or since met a pekingese that didn't absolutely love me.

I did her breeder the courtesy of offering Stella back to her rather than selling her to someone else. She agreed to take her back and to pay my money back to me.

We made arrangements to meet at a show in Texas where I delivered a much cleaner and much more healthy dog. She gave me $750.00 with a promise to re-pay the rest. That was all I ever received from her. She had not intended to re-pay me even though she had promised to do so.

So much for the word of a so-called reputable breeder.

As if that wasn't bad enough, she then proceeded to tell a very different story of the situation in order to make herself look better in the eyes of her friends. Since she is supposed to be a "reputable breeder" of course, everyone believed the lies she told. Her promise to me was no good and even after many calls and e-mails to her, she has refused to re-pay me and has gotten very nasty with me about the situation.

Through God's grace, I have gotten beyond what she did to me.

This was yet another lesson learned.
